Amazing: Scientist Transformed Spinach leaves in Human Heart

Its true, Spinach becomes heart tissue. A new surprising study is done by scientist. We knew that there are so many benefits of spinach like boosting immune power, haemoglobin, bone, skin and eye power etc. But We didn’t think like that Its convert in human heart. Spinach leaves can be used as a platform for beating human heart cells.

Researchers have transformed to lab-growing human tissue in a human heart with the help of spinach. Spinach grows a network of veins, for instance, that thread through its leaves in a way similar to blood vessels through a human heart.

The tissue engineers found recently green stripped spinach leaves turned translucent. The scientists seeded the gaps that the plant cells left behind with human heart tissue. Heart cells, in clusters, beat for up to three weeks in this unusual environment. Cellulose is compatible with mammal tissue, as well as the intact leaf veins. The scientists seeded the now-vacated cellulose matrix with cardiac muscle cells. After five days, the muscle cells began to beat.

Procedure Performed by Bioengineers

A research team of Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) has solved a major tissue engineering problem. holding back the regeneration of damaged human tissues and organs: how to grow small, delicate blood vessels, which are beyond the capabilities of 3D printing.

The team cultured spinach leaves that were stripped of plant cells. The researchers decellularized spinach leaves (removed cells, leaving only the veins) by perfusing (flowing) a detergent solution through the leaves’ veins. Now framework made up by biocompatible cellulose, which is used in a wide variety of regenerative medicine applications, such as cartilage tissue engineering, bone tissue engineering, and wound healing.

After testing the spinach vascular (leaf vessel structure) system mechanically by flowing fluids and microbeads similar in size to human blood cells through it, the researchers seeded the vasculature with human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) to grow endothelial cells (which line blood vessels).

Human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSC) and human pluripotent stem-cell-derived cardiomyocytes (cardiac muscle cells) (hPS-CM) are seeded to the outer surfaces of  the plant scaffolds. The cardiomyocytes spontaneously demonstrated cardiac contractile function (beating) and calcium-handling capabilities over the course of 21 days.

According to Researchers, “These  studies may open the door to using multiple spinach leaves to grow layers of healthy heart muscle, and a potential tissue engineered graft based upon the plant scaffolds could use multiple leaves, where some act as arterial support and some act as venous return of blood and fluids from human tissue.”

              ssss     Outcome of Marvellous Study

pointing hand Point to be focus, study has done on plant leaves, it’s really economically good. Whereas high cost synthetic chemical procedure can be harmful and incompatible with human body. Here Cellulose , a plant product is compatible with human body.

pointing handThis study explored a  secondary vascular network for the outflow of blood and fluids from human tissue. So researchers are trying to make an arterial graft.

Gaudette said the study could be the foundation for stitching the veins of spinach leaves to human blood vessels. “Long term, we’re definitely envisioning implanting a graft in damaged heart tissue,”

pointing handThis study is also given birth of new imagination. The biomedical engineers imagined that a piece of broccoli or cauliflower, once stripped of its cells, could be a foundation for growing lung tissue.

pointing hand The eventual goal is to be able to replace damaged tissue in patients who have had heart attacks or who have suffered other cardiac issues that prevent their hearts from contracting. Like blood vessels, the veins in the modified leaves would deliver oxygen to the entire swath of replacement tissue, which is crucial in generating new heart matter.
