According to Buddhism, there is unhealthy fear and healthy fear. If we are afraid of rat and spider etc that actually can’t harm us then that is unhealthy fear. On the other hand, when someone gives up smoking because they are afraid of developing lung cancer, this is a healthy fear because the danger is real and there are constructive steps they can take to avoid it.
How to brain can understand danger signal
Emotions like fear, happy, sadness and habit all are governed by neural pathway. From childhood our mind start practice about the reaction of emotion. Brain learns to connect certain responses to certain stimuli. So fear centre also wired up with particular danger signal and release some chemical which alerts body against particular danger stimuli.
This learning behaviour of brain tell us, if we will provide training than we will triumph over our fear. Amygdala is a fear centre of brain when any danger stimulus come than new neural cell start storing that memory and stop the thinking power and start with visualisation problem. To overcome fear, adopt some of these following strategies :-
Overcome Fear with a Simple Breathing Exercise
New study said that too much fear causes an energy imbalance in the body that leads to disease, so we should feel healthy, happy, and stress free and maintain our energy balance . Deep breathing is a better way to release stress and fear. Its increases blood flow in our body and especially to our brain. Plenty of blood contains sufficient oxygen for activating our brain performance which is stuck due to danger signal. Normal blood flow release stress and mood enhancing chemicals. So we can train our mind for bad situation by taking deep breath.
Develop Your Visualization Skill
Our brain cannot differentiate well between real action and mental action. Studies showed that while our body is at rest but if we are thinking something, will activate the neural path as we were doing actual as same. Mental training can improve our visualisation power.
Find a photograph or object, and take your time to analyze it. Memorise every detail you can. Then simply close your eyes and try to recreate it in your mind. Bring in as much as you can. Now rotate and try to analyze of different angle. This way is helpful for analyzing all odd and even aspect of any situation and will help you to develop your visualization power. This training provides to soldiers to overcome fear and improving their analyzing power what is real and delusion.
Overthinking is basically when you are thinking only about your fear or any other emotion and you can’t think about anything else, and it’s affecting your life in a negative way. Most common fear is overthinking about your future, job and social insecurities. Sometimes, you can’t take action, and the only thing you can do to get past overthinking an idea is to distract your mind. So stop overthinking about unrealistic matter.
Develop your hobby and try to concentrate on it. Fear can finish your thinking power. So try to train your mind to concentrate a favourite topic. This way you can easily divert your mind and will move a step ahead towards a constructive mind. This will helpful for you to build your confidence.
Overthinking is a special type of fear. This fear becomes worse when adding anticipation, memory, imagination and emotion together.
We have concluded that fear is product of our hallucinatory mind. We suffer with that which does not exist in reality.
Train your mind for thinking about realistic thing. Improve your visualization and analyzing power by doing exercise. Breathing exercise is also improve positive energy in our mind. In fearing stage, calm your mind and take breath and analyze the real situation and prepare to amygdala for bad situation.
